Laid out as a county seat in 1838, Eutaw, Alabama is home to over twenty Antebellum homes. Among them, Kirkwood, built as the home for cotton planter & speculator Foster M. Kirksey. Nearly wiped out during Reconstruction, he and his descendants nonetheless held onto Kirkwood until 1961. In 1972 the home was purchased by preservation minded owners who spent the next decade restoring it to peak condition. Favorite parts? Those wonderful ionic capitals! Also, that incredible carved marble drawing room mantle!
